His lawyer isn't optimistic. On Feb. 24, a jury of seven men and five women convicted Weinstein on two of five potential counts: a first-degree Criminal Sexual Act charge and third-degree rape. Taken together, Weinstein, 67, faces a minimum of five years and a maximum of 29 years in prison. In an interview with THR's Jeremy Barr, Weinstein's New York-based lawyer, Arthur Aidala, suggested that his team is expecting the worst. "I cannot say I'm optimistic," he said. "I am nervous about it." The story. +Lead prosecutor Joan Illuzzi asked Judge James Burke on Wednesday morning to sentence Harvey Weinstein to "the maximum or near the maximum" years in prison, which could be up to 29 years. She also asked the judge for the sentences to be served consecutively, rather than concurrently. The disgraced producer made the statement about the actress in October 2017, during the start of the #MeToo movement, which was created in response to the myriad sexual misconduct allegations made against him. More. ►New Dracula movie in the works as Universal remakes its Monsterverse. On the heels of The Invisible Man's No. 1 opening on Feb. 28 and its $98.3 million haul so far, Universal is taking steps to revive its fabled stable of classic monsters for the big screen. But the new batch of films will be stand-alone, moderately budgeted efforts, rather than big swings within an interconnected movie universe. --The studio is working with filmmakers such as Paul Feig, Elizabeth Banks and John Krasinski, even developing multiple takes on one character, sources say. "They have multiple irons in the fire, but not all will become real," says one agent familiar with the studio's plans. The story. ►The Hunt review: "This exceedingly violent, conspiratorially charged and guiltily engaging action melodrama ultimately pits woman against woman in an almost farcically over-the-top death match, and what it sets out to say about our currently polarized society will be swallowed by some and spit out by others," Todd McCarthy writes. Coronavirus Hits TV Production ►TV production impacted: A production member for the Fox show neXt, which wrapped production at Cinespace in Chicago last week, has tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the performers union SAG-AFTRA said in a statement Tuesday. “We are working closely with the CDPH to identify and contact all individuals who came in direct contact with the crew member, and are taking precautions to protect all who work on our productions," said Disney Television Studios, which produces the show.
