Chu is gearing up for a Hawaiian roller coaster ride. The director behind Crazy Rich Asians is in negotiations to helm Disney’s live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback, the banner behind the billion dollar-grossing live-action remake of Aladdin, are producing. Rideback’s Ryan Halprin is executive producing. --A search for a scribe to work with Chu is now underway. Mike Van Waes wrote the current draft for the project, which has not been greenlit and is still in development. The story. +Disney continues to play musical chairs with its TV series. The conglomerate announced Friday that Tony Hale-led YA drama The Mysterious Benedict Society will move from Hulu, where it was originally developed, to Disney+. Based on the best-selling book series by Trenton Lee and co-starring Kristen Schaal, the eight-episode series will debut in 2021. More. 'Space Force' To Return ➤Netflix is returning to space. The streaming giant has renewed its Steve Carell-led comedy Space Force for a second season. Production on the pricey comedy will move from Los Angeles to Vancouver in a bid to reduce the show's budget. Filming will begin next year. A return date has not yet been determined. As part of a larger creative revamp, Norm Hiscock has also joined the series and will serve as co-showrunner alongside Greg Daniels. The move comes amid the coronavirus crisis that has rocked Hollywood, with a number of studio tentpoles moving from 2020 to 2021. Academy Museum Closes Out Fundraising Effort ➤Academy Museum of Motion Pictures hits pre-opening fundraising goal. A donation from the animation studio LAIKA moved the museum — which is located at the corner of Wilshire and Fairfax, and is set to open this spring — over the finish line, closing out a campaign that was launched in 2012 and overseen by chair Bob Iger and co-chairs Annette Bening and Tom Hanks. A gallery dedicated to special collections will be named after the Oregon-based company.
